The writer has already mention Melchizedek the priest, but to this point in the letter the Hebrew reader would be struggling a little with him bring up Melchizedek. The writer has said Jesus is greater than the prophets, angels, Moses, Joshua and now greater than the Aaronic priesthood. The prophecies concerning the Messiah being a King was easy to understand. Jesus was from the tribe of Judah. The Mosaic Law stated priest came from the tribe of Levi.  The Jews knew their King according to Mosaic Law couldn't also be a priest. Historically when a King tried to assume the role of a priest the were punished. So how can Jesus be both King and High Priest? Chapter seven lays out the logical way by using the historical example of Abrahams encounter with Melchizedek and Psalms 110. Today Christians have difficulty in Appreciating the beauty of Jesus as our High Priest today, yet without Him as our High Priest we would have no salvation. I hope you will be encouraged by this study.

The Gospel is good news. The good news is salvation can be achieved through the sacrifice of Jesus. But the Gospel first establishes bad news. YOU are a sinner and there is a fearful wrath a waiting those how have rejected the Gospel. On the day of Pentecost Peter and the other Apostles explained the bad news of the Gospel so they would understand the need for salvation. Paul in the letter to the Romans is doing the same. He must establish the need for all to be saved.

The idea of someone falling away from the Lord not being able to repent is difficult, worrisome. One saved always saved believers have a difficult time with this idea. It’s not complicated when you strip away preconceived ideas and approach it with the simple understand the reader would have as they read the letter. Context is the key. Also correlating scriptural concepts taught concerning sin and repentance adds the necessary clarity.

Hundreds of years before Jesus began his ministry the prophet Isaiah penned a very curious prophecy. To the Jewish people who hear this prophecy it was difficult at best to decipher what he was talking about. With the guidance of the Holy Spirit Isaiah explained an aspect of the desired Messiah of Israel and it wasn’t one they wanted in a Messiah. The message had multiple levels of application. Many two-fold meanings. This prophecy could only be completed by the very one they didn’t want for a Messiah. Isaiah 53 is the Mosaic and Christian Gospel. Join as we continue to examine this marvelous letter Paul wrote.

There are times life just seems to try and break us. As Christians we struggle to understand the "why". Is my faith too weak? am I in sin? Has God just forgotten me? Job never was aware of the great spiritual stage his life would play out before. There's no doubt that the entire spiritual world was watching. If angles were yearning to see the completion of the plan of salvation, they must have been standing in awe watching as the battle between God and Satan unfolding. Job was victorious and we never read another written conversation from Satan until he tries to tempt Jesus. As much as we try to understand the "why" behind God allowing this to happen we must learn as Job did.... we cannot grasp beauty of God's wisdom.

Humans understand the concept of rest. All biological life needs rest. God has provided opportunities for His children a place of rest. This, the Hebrew writer says was illustrated by the Hebrews who were led out of slavery where promised a place of rest. A land of "milk and honey", a place where they would be truly free and blessed. This promise was conditional. when the Mosaic Law was codified, they were given the promise of blessings and cruses. Blessings if they would obey and cruses if they disobeyed. In this book of Hebrews, the writer collates their failure to obtain the rest and our potential to repeat the same failure of obtaining God's rest. However, there is a greater rest promised that still awaits faithful Christians.

Motivation will determine our actions or lack of action. Having the right motivation to serve God is important. Some serve God because the glass is 1/2 full or serve God because the glass is 1/2 empty. Are there right or wrong motivations to serving God?

Welcome to Our Quest for God's Truth

Searching for the church shaped by scripture podcast focusing on examining the New Testament to find the church that Jesus established and guided by the Holy Spirit through people. Every Friday at 10:00 am on YouTube and Facebook we will be live streaming.

In today’s world we need more truth concerning how to become a disciple of Christ. The world needs more Christ like people NOT self-serving religious so-called Christians.

God’s word/ Bible is NOT Complicated. The first Christians did not need a higher level of intelligence or education to understand the Gospel. What they needed is a sincere love for God.

The book of acts and the letters in the New Testament provide us examples and clear authority for everything we should be doing today in the church Jesus established, anything else is not a church of which He would approve.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

Everyone should be honest enough to examine our faith/knowledge to insure we are pleasing Him. After all our eternal destiny will be determined by pleasing God, not man. You will not be by denominations’ of churches, but individually before God. You will not be able to tell God, “well, that’s what my pastor taught and that’s what I did.” There is a beauty about the Gospel that each person must genuinely desire to find God. That is what we read about in the gospels. When Jesus was alive it was the humble, broken spirit that was drawn to him. Others who thought they were spiritual were attracted to him for the wrong reasons and walked away either disappointed or angry.

one most Sobering teaching of Jessus in in Matthew 7:21-27

21 “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’

Build Your House on the Rock

24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”

I know that if we listen to Jesus’ words will too be the wise man whose house can withstand the storms in this life AND gain an eternal home in heaven, where there will be no more tears, nor the sorrows of this world.

So, Join us in our quest to grow in the Truth of God’s Word and Make it a real part of who we are.
