Jesus Mediator of a Better Covenant Hebrews 7

The writer has already mention Melchizedek the priest, but to this point in the letter the Hebrew reader would be struggling a little with him bring up Melchizedek. The writer has said Jesus is greater than the prophets, angels, Moses, Joshua and now greater than the Aaronic priesthood. The prophecies concerning the Messiah being a King was easy to understand. Jesus was from the tribe of Judah. The Mosaic Law stated priest came from the tribe of Levi.  The Jews knew their King according to Mosaic Law couldn't also be a priest. Historically when a King tried to assume the role of a priest the were punished. So how can Jesus be both King and High Priest? Chapter seven lays out the logical way by using the historical example of Abrahams encounter with Melchizedek and Psalms 110. Today Christians have difficulty in Appreciating the beauty of Jesus as our High Priest today, yet without Him as our High Priest we would have no salvation.
